Nippers Season Start 2021

    It’s been delayed but we are almost ready to start another Nippers season!  I’d like to begin by sending out a huge welcome to our new members – especially our U6s as they start their first season with us.

    We again find ourselves operating in a Covid-19 impacted environment. We appreciate
    everyone’s patience and help in complying with the current public health orders.
    All parents and carers above the age of 16 must be fully vaccinated to attend Nippers.

    As always, at Bilgola SLSC, our highest priority is the safety of you and your family.

    The following sections detail start of season events and some exciting changes
    we have made to the Nipper program this year.

    Welcome for New Members this Sunday

    All new members are invited to a welcome tour of the club and introduction to the Nipper programme at 10:00am this Sunday 31st of October.  Meet the Junior committee, learn about our wonderful club and facilities and have any questions on the upcoming Nipper season answered.

    Proficiencies

    Water proficiencies for U8s to U13s will be held between 8am and 11am this Sunday 31st of October. Times for individual age groups are below:

    • U13 : 8:00am
    • U12 : 8:30am
    • U11 : 9:00am
    • U10 : 9:30am
    • U9 : 10:00am
    • U8 : 10:30am

     The BBQ will be open.  See the Nippers website for more information on proficiencies.

     

    Nippers Start

    Nippers will start with a Twilight session and BBQ the following week on November 7th.
    As per last year we will run two split sessions:

     U6s-U9s : 3:00-4:00pm
     U10s-U13s: 4:30-5:30pm

    We will then revert to morning sessions up untll the Xmas party which will be a Twilight session on the 12th December.

    What's New This Season

    The Junior Committee have been busy in the off season working on several new initiatives.

    Coastal Environment Program

    Following our rock shelf tour last year we have enhanced our coastal environment programme. Nippers will have the chance to complete 3 modules focusing on different aspects of our local Marine ecology. We will also have another guided tour of the rock platforms by a marine science lecturer.

    We are purchasing snorkeling equipment to allow us to further explore the local marine environment.

    Training

    Our midweek training programs have been extended. There will now be 3 midweek training sessions:

    • Monday Board Training for Competition 6-7pm
    • Wednesday Sand 5:30-6:30
    • Thursday Boards and Swimming (open to all) 5:30-6:30

    There will be notifications in coming weeks as these programs start. 

    Twilight Nippers

    Based on feedback in our annual Nipper surveys we will extend our Nippers social events.


    The pre Xmas (2021) session will start and end with Twilight Nippers and a BBQ.  We will
    then have Twilight Nippers on the first Sunday of each month for the 2nd session in 2022.
