Bilgola Nippers and COVID-19 in 2021/22
While Nippers is all about fun, competition and participation at the beach, the safety of our families is our primary concern at Bilgola SLSC. And due to COVID-19, we are tailoring our Juniors program this year to ensure that your family’s safety is maintained.
Bilgola SLSC is a COVID safe organisation and we have a Nippers specific COVID Safety Plan in accordance with Surf Life Saving NSW and Northern Beaches SLS Branch recommendations.
How will Nippers run this year?
Our COVID Motto: Keep safe, have fun
Nippers is scheduled to commence after the state of NSW reaches the 80% adult double vaccination target (16years and over)
We will require those 16yo+ entering the clubhouse facilities to be fully vaccinated. As well as all Age managers, Age assistants and parents attending Nippers will need to be fully vaccinated
This applies between the date we are able to start Nippers and December 1 (where the adult vaccinations will not be mandated)
This aligns with NSW Government Health Orders for the opening of community facilities and a requirement for patrons to be fully vaccinated.
Members will be requested to provide proof of vaccination or medical exemption upon entry to Nippers

- COVID-19 digital certificate in the Express Plus Medicare app
- COVID-19 digital certificate in your smartphone wallet
- COVID-19 digital certificate on a Medicare online account through MyGov
- COVID-19 digital certificate – printed
- Immunisation history statement shown on a Medicare online account through MyGov
- Immunisation history statement – printed
- COVID-19 medical clearance notice shown as a digital pdf or printed copy
- COVID-19 medical exemption form shown as a printed copy. Must be signed by a doctor.
You will soon be able to add your proof of vaccination to the Service NSW app so you can easily show it at the same time as you are checking in.
To date, the Public Health Order at 80% has not yet been released. Due to this, the 200 reported Community Sport participation numbers may change in between the release of this information and the 80% Roadmap currently in place.

All parents are required to check in using the Service NSW QR code check in on arrival at Nippers.

Reminder to checkout when leaving Nippers or the Clubhouse post the Nippers sessions.
Nippers are recorded via attendance sheets based on latest registration lists that we obtain from the SLS system as per normal.
To ensure the program can operate in our current COVID climate, we have a new structure to the Sunday Nippers schedule. (200 person limit to outdoor gatherings).
Session 1 – U6-U9 plus 2021 SRC (14)
0800-0900am Session 1
Session 2 – U10-U13
0930-1030 or 1045am Session 2
Nippers – are not required to social distance whilst on the beach. If SRC – in “theory” training inside, they will need to adhere to 1 person per 4sqm
Post December 1 this will change to 1 person per 2sqm
Between Age Groups: Age groups will assemble for attendance/roll call/briefing in designated areas as marked and as per the map below. There will also be a conditions based schedule for events each morning to avoid too many in pool/water or other events and keep us all at safe distances.
Assisting the Nippers:
This season, only AGE Managers/Assistants and qualified Water safety members will be able to support the delivery of Nippers.
To ensure that our Nippers are kept safe both in the water and on the beach, we encourage members to become an Age Manager and/or do your Bronze!!

Nippers Age groups
This season, all Nippers to be in their actual age groups to facilitate accurate record keeping/numbers/processing and contact tracing.
Age Managers/Assistants only to take out equipment required for groups and these will be cleaned at the end of each session.
Will operate after each session. Additional help will be required and age groups will be nominated each week to assist.
We will be allowed 200 in the outdoor BBQ area and we will monitor this each session to ensure we are not over the 1 persons per 2sqm requirement.
No shower access at this current time.
Our Nippers COVID Officer is Sanjay Gnanadickam who will be present at all Nippers sessions and identifiable by wearing a lovely “high vis” vest!
This year he will be assisted by Daniel Cran who will be present during the Second Session of Nippers from 9:30-10:30 am
Keeping us all safe:
We are asking all parents/caregivers to support us to meet Government requirements and stay COVID-safe by:
- Staying at home if you or your child have any COVID-19 symptoms or are unwell.
- Report to the Juniors Officer (Michael ) or Club President (Peter Fenley) as soon as possible if after having attended a Nippers session, you have been advised you have been in contact or have COVID-19.
- Use the Service NSW QR Code Check in everytime you attend Nippers and register for your children as well.
- Ordering your Nipper’s uniforms online – Bilgola Uniform online
- Bringing your own sunscreen, water bottles, goggles and towels to avoid sharing
- Using the contactless Hand sanitation stations as provided during Nippers.
We are committed to keeping all members of the club safe, and appreciate and thank you for your understanding and support . As Government restrictions change, we will update and refine our program accordingly.
